Welcome to Rebekkah Ford
Please tell us a little about yourself. Well, I live in rural North Dakota with my husband and four-legged kid *cough* cat Church. We moved here 7 years ago from Prescott, Arizona and love it. I grew up in a family who dealt with the paranormal, and I think that’s why I’m so fascinated with the unknown and love to write about it. I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid.
Please tell us a little about your writing – for example genre, title, etc. Right now I’ve been writing YA paranormal/fantasy–a trilogy. The first book is called Beyond the Eyes, the second is Dark Spirits, and the third is called The Devil’s Third.
Who or what are your inspirations/influences? Anne Rice. I grew up reading her books. TV shows that I’m into inspire me and some movies as well. Also, if I’m reading a really good book, I get inspired.
Research can be important in world-building, how much do you need to do for your books? Do you enjoy this aspect of creating a novel and what are your favourite resources? Yes, I had to do some research for my books, and I enjoy the learning aspect of it, but not the time consuming part. LOL. To be honest, I rather spend the time writing. The research I had to do was on King Solomon and the Nazis. My favorite resource is the internet of course. Google is my friend.
In what formats are your books available? (E-books, print, large print audio) Are you intending to expand these? (If applicable) They’re in all formats, except for audio, which I plan on doing in the near future.
Do you self-edit? If so why is that the case? Do you believe a book suffers without being professionally edited? No, I don’t self edit. I have a wonderful editor who I send my manuscripts to. I do believe a book suffers if it’s not professionally edited.
What are your opinions about authors commenting on reviews? I appreciate all the reviews I get. Thankfully, a majority of them have been wonderful, but I do have a few not-so-good reviews. I do respect their opinions, but some of them I find don’t understand the main character like I wish they did. But that’s okay. Every artist gets bad reviews from time to time. It goes with the territory.
Do you listen to music or watch TV whilst you write? No. I prefer it to be quiet.
What experiences can a book provide that a movie or video game cannot? An internal, personal experience where the reader can conjure her own visuals mentally.
What advice would you give new writers? Write what you love, read a lot, write every day, and believe in yourself and your story. Remember, the more you write, the better you become.
What are your best marketing/networking tips? I’m still trying to figure that one out. LOL. I’d say social media like Twitter, Google +, Facebook, and of course having your own blog.
Most authors also like to read, what books do you enjoy? I love books that are paranormal, fantasy, dystopian, contemporary, and some romance. I’m also getting into some sci-fi as well.
Can you give us a silly fact about yourself? I sometimes sing opera just to annoy my cat. I’m tone deaf btw.
